the concept was for a tin man robot, the idea i had behind
this was that the robot was from the army of OZ and was not
in use or damaged in battle, and had been rigged up to be used
as a wood cutter.

This bit of work was when I was still at uni (unfinished),
the idea behind it was a forest that the canopy of
leaves were so dense that no light go through,
so all the fungi and plant life created a set of bio
illuminations to give the player a path through
the level, in the center of the forest was a fountain
that emitted light that made all the plant life near
to fight to survive off of the best light source in its
world.

heres what i'm working on at the mo..., lot to do
the idea behind this on isto do two robots of this body shape
and type, one for the battle field and one for the palace, this is
the palace model both of them are going to have stands
reprecenting there scenes, because I wanted to do this was

hello all, been doing a good amount of
drawings on aliens since I've been in
wales,and here a a few of them.

i will be doing a 3d model on one soon
so any input i receive would be good
and useful in doing this model.......

i have decided that because most films
and games make them out to be evil
and dangerous looking , with sharp
teeth and shit, i am going to focus
on what the alien abduction reports
say about them and what they look
like in sensible films.

i will base my design around these aspects,
so I'm trying to make one that looks
inquisitive and almost human but with
exceedingly creepy eyes.

Here is the low poly of my yingyang snake bird,
the tri count is like 3.500 something like that ,
I do realize that this tri count is to high but I
can not afford to spend any more time on this
model and need to get on with something else,
there are still faces I could delete but have
decided to work on some thing else, plus I don't
much care for the texture and will prob redo
it in the future......
oww... I decided that I should scrap the other
base for the model and go back to this one, because
the other base I couldn't get it to look round
enough in the low poly, with out wasting to
many triangles,

after the assessment on Friday, I am taking my project in a different direction, to make sure I can finish it on time, many of you that did not know what I am doing may have questions to why I'm now posting concept art, we'll you see...... I need to make one part of the level reflect my art style, so I am going to cut the size down and make it easier to manage and so I can focus on one are alone fitting the art style and lighting styles and not get caught up in fixing problems all over the level and wasting time.

this is unfold3D I've been using this program for awhile now and once u learn how to use it properly its better than Max's unfolding functions, i know it crashes...but this took me like 30 min to unwrap and that after it crashed, just after i finished and i had to do it again but it works and is not hard to use. bla bla jibber jibber jibber

hay i haven't posted in awhile and I'm prob not going to put any pics the real plane on my blog because there massive,
I might put one or two on, been working on the Bristol fighter f. 2b when down to the imperial war hangers down in Duxford, took ages and cost quite abit but it was a good day out and very cold.

I did theses to awhile ago but i like them and i find working on a brown background and adding high light first on anew layer and then shading on the back work quite well, i like it i can get things out quick like this, and i just find it productive...

hello...I'm back and a little better, I have been doing a lot of 3d work in the last 2 weeks working on a robot i designed a while ago. trying to make a decent normal map in zbrush 3.1........and through doing this or..trying to do this i have found that i need to know a lot more about max and other programs to find out what I'm doing wrong. so I'm going to have to go back to the start, .....I know a long way back but its needed I will start on max trying to understand things that i have missed, i will also be doing this with photoshop, zbrush and Coral........yes

i have also been designing a comic that i hope will give me something to draw about and also i will get to draw everything i have tryed to do in the past but if i keep this up it will improve my skill... it all started when Tom Li told me about the comic called gon about a dinosaur getting in to all kind of trouble, and this guy made the comic to make his drawing style better....

I got a bit of feed back on a blog post I put up about 2 weeks ago, people questioning weather I was ok or all right, there is no simple awnser to this....... I feel that the blog I made turned me in to some sort of a outcast to the rest of my course so I retracted it.

but ....... thats what I think and feel and I like that about my blog (thats why its my blog), I don't see it as a dairy of what I have accomplished that day, because the work that i have done is the accomplishment. I use my blog as a means to try and understand my self in this world, and I have given up listening to the veiws of others and taking them to heart, so I will go back to what I was doing with my blog, which is noteing my mental state because my mind is not great so its easyer to note about my self and try and understand it in the long run.

....and no I don't care if u have a problem with me or the way I work please keep it to yourself because I will continue with my pattern of thinking and I don't care if people call me dumb or if i'm a joke because I am my own man and I have choosen this route in life.

like I did say a couple of weeks ago I have not been feeling to great since we finshed and no i don't know why I have been trying to figure it out...... all I see is nothing to me, its like a meaningless strugle to climb a rope that keeps getting longer just out of veiw.

I see no point in this strugle but thats what I live for...... so what next do I continue climbing or do I let go and fall the thousand miles I have climbed, I just don't know any more I need a reason to keep going and I have nothing.

I have tryed to see myself and all I see is a black void eating every thing in sight and leaving only destuction in it's wake.......I need inspiration and I need to find it myself I don't need the voices of the masses telling me how I should think and feel, because in the end what will I have to show for it ......nothing, I need to form my own views, I need a reason to exsist and thats why I'm here but I have realised that I have been looking at this world in a differnt light , a tainted light............................so I need to find myself in this endless void, because I don't like who I am now and I don't want to stick on that, so these next couple of years will be very hard and I don't know if I will make it....we will see....eeh.

I am trying to do a range of personal drawings this is a hard thing to do and I am trying to do some thing that has an effect by the end of this little project, it will take some time and i don't know how its going to turn out.

I will have to dive deep in to my mind and try and bring something back that is unusal and with each picture i will try and go for a bigger part of my self. i will try and do some as self portraits. because i thing it will help me to understand certain things about my self.

I thought I would write a blog about creative work flow since the course ended.
my thought it has slipped out of mind and out of site, I know not where it has gone and why it even came in the first place, I can not paint or draw these last couple of days and I don't know why because the 2 weeks before the course ended I couldn't stop drawing and painting it was like I had reached a new level of the understanding of art and the rate in which to do art and productively, most will say its he pressure of dead lines, but I think that so, because the was no worry when I was doing these final pieces, I felt no haste and no rush in the work flow, don't get me wrong most if not all are not finished and thats ok because I was working to a time span on each picture. and I'm happyish with some of the pictures i have done........but now nothing and I can't place why....

this is what I got right there 3 thing that could have been influencing me in the last two weeks of the course.... I had just gone have for 3 weeks and was feeling quite refreshed in doing work and my level of creativity was way up but I also could hardly sleep the when i was at home it freaks me out but I'm not going in to why, and 2 days after I come back i feel depressed with city life and that is factor number 2 I don't know if the depression pushed me to create I know most will rule that out straight away but you never know how an trainee artist brain works,
and number 3 is the dead line factor but i don't want it to be that so I hope its not, but its sort of ok if it is.......

i have decided to do a blog on self criticism because I am using some new drawing styles and have also been trying merge them with my own, recently i have been looking at Keith Thompson and H.R. Giger and some old school anatomy book, and I think that this has helped me to develop my style to the next level.....but still loads to go.

I have been looking at Keith Thompson to get a better grasp of digital art and I think it is helping, and I have been looking at constructive anatomy( the anatomy book) to get a better understanding of the workings of the human body and muscle layout, and to improve my drawing I think this is helping but I need to do more work on muscles and hands, I have also been looking at Giger because he was one of my big influences and i thought that this would be a good way to merge every thing in to my art style,i think that this worked quite well and have decided to do another Giger picture in the near future.

I have also decided to make my latest picture of art work in to a back ground so that get me to do anouther one just to change it. this has been working quite well because i hate to look at my own work.

criticism the ins and outs

in these series of blog i hope to put across how important criticism is to the artist and to you as a person I know what i have gone over so far but the understanding of criticism is very wide spread and if u cant grasp what is being said to you then you will not get very far in the direction you want to go, I know I'm a stubborn guy but but i only every get angry when stupidity is layed out before me weather its mine or some one else's it a problem I must over come but there is a thin line between being blind and being stubborn thats the problem you see, most people will not understand much of what I say as well but thats fine they'll understand one day and if they listen then it will benefit them,

I' m sorry I know I go of on a rant some of the time but I just don't think like a robot and thats the one thing I see more and more, people don't put enough emotion in to their work and it is needed more these days than ever, because creativity and inspiration are drying up like a glass of water left out in the sun.......sorry rant again.

criticism is on of the refining factors of life and its not a bad one, but it does have its problems it can make a person sour to their core and leave them dead in side, so u have to know when to stop with criticism some people just can't take it.

this blog is about criticism and how it apples to the industry and to the growth of a person. in my opinion I love a good bit of constructive criticism and some times destructive criticism to help me move along to the next step of my work, all types of criticism help me at different times and places in my life, so I try and take the good with the bad in all thing I do, that is one thing I believe that if you don't allow your self to take in the criticism you can never learn from it weather it be at art or your self as a person you will never be better.... and even if some of you people think I don't do that.... all I can say is you don't know me... and what I've been through to get this far and what I've see to make me what I am today, and loads of it will come down to criticism and how I decide to precive that criticism, in any case I have received alot of help from people who know me through out the years..... sorry thats a bit of a rant but its all good.

I believe that criticism is a huge part of being a artist and if you can't get your head round what criticism is good and bad in the world of art then you have alot to learn, there is a whole world out there and there not enough time to check every detail out for your self so you have to believe others, but not all the time because you can be sent down the wrong path and then your in trouble... the thing is its hard to trust people because you don't know of there true intentions, so pick carefully and don't let anyone over power what you know to be truth, because a bit of destructive criticism suger coated and said in the right way can seem like positive criticism and can really throw you off the sent.

I am sorry about this blog but I have changed my thought pattern and I know it doesn't seem to make sense but thats how I view it. my apologizes to the people who read my blog....thanks for readin....peace

hello...here we are again another blog another line of thour, in this little edition I would like to talk about my path and what I would like to do, and also the creativity that I know and understand.

Lets get this ball rolling.... ok basically I would like a job as a concept artist, and now I have seen the amount of people on the internet that are concept artists, its worrying and the fact that there all so good it makes me think that I don't know if my art skill is good enough to get me a job and because I don't like the 3D that much I don't really want to be a 3D artist, I like the 3D art don't get me wrong...its just I like art more so thats what I want to do if I can...... I don't like giving up on some thing I've spent my life doing and I want to get to a good enough level of art I just need some thing to push me.....I mean I will get there but I need more practice and not only that I need more smarts on how thing work, I need that so I know how to convey that in to my art and understand how to draw certain things....I don't know.

Right... the way i think about creativity is that there are so many different factors that drive the need to create, there is also the factor of intelligence it is a bit mad that there are no good stupid artists, I also think that the amount of imagery plays a good part in the hole thing, I don't know how to compile all the factor in to making a creative genius I will try and figure it out though so I can learn what needs to be seen to become a great artist....one day I'll do it, there is still loads I need to find out about creativity like the fact that there are more game artist than I imagined and its only going to get worse and we need to keep on top of the programs that pop up and get better at art, loads to do so little time.

I am no closer to understanding the root of creativity and have not been able to decipher my own creative pattern, and I think there is now a lot more than meets the eye in creativity if you know what I mean, but its not all bad I have found out things about myself that will help down the road and I have found the limit in to which I can push my self in doing work, I know there are thing with creativity that I know and can now understand but it has raised loads of questions about my self and my spark of creativity, I just don't know any more..........arrrghh ....it matters not I have figured out some thing that most have not and I intend to use this insight to gathering as much skill as I can get my mind round, that is one thing I have learn't time and time again that you have no chance of being able to draw what you see if you don't understand it, I mean that if you see someones work and you think"owwww that head looks good I'll draw that"and you can because you don't understand what the artist was thinking when he drew it and how the mechanism works round the back, you just cant do it.....any way!!!

I have tried to understand the root of all creativity and it just chewed me up and spit me out, there are parts I get like inspiration is the cornerstone of the creative insight but there are factors that come in to it that probably should not come in to it, you know human things like being tired and hungry, but spending the day drawing does use alot of energy in you body, I mean take that for instance pushing a pencil across paper doesn't take up much energy its the creative mind waxes energy while you work. after doing these blogs I do think the mind is like a muscle the way it takes things in and if you don't use it, it suffers and gets slack again.

I still am undecided at the amount of my creative knowledge, and I don't know how far it will take me but I still want to improve my creative mind and see what I can do in a year, It used to be that I improved every other week and could look back on my work from a week ago and see an improvement and I also used to get a great boost of trying to beat my brother in art but he has let his drawing fall down and I have probably surpassed him and thats not good because he was probably my main driving factor and now it is no more.!!!

creativity 7........the start of the end !

in this blog I will try to understand the reason to why I like detail so much and the reason to why I try to cram to much detail in to things where it is not needed. I like detail because of the amount time and effort it takes to create some thing that is a fully focused image, its like what I was talking about in one of the other blogs there are 3 steps to creativity the compiling of imagery, the the thought process to get the image in you head on to paper, and the amount of skill you have as a artist( your drawing ability). so its simple why I like loads of detail in work I see for two reasons I want only the most thought out bits of work for my creative process and I also respect the artist who has done the work of detail because they have probably spent days getting every thing right and that is one of the hardest things getting the image in your head out on the paper in full detail, so yes I respect good artists because of the skill over there own creative minds .....bravo.

owww......and the other thing why I try to cram as much detail in to artwork to the point where there is no point because you'll never see it , I don't know why I do this but..... I guess that its because I like to know how things work and I like to think that some one will see my artwork someday and think the same thing I think about detailed artists work, I don't know but I want to create some thing that no one has created before...I know every things been done, but has it because if you think like that then all your going to do all your life is rip off others artwork and not create it your self.......I don't mind what others do, it matters not to me I still need to achieve something......sorry I kind of got lost there. more tomoz

creativity 6 ..... deep down the rabit hole

hay.... creativity again... today I shall look at art work that inspires me, everyone like there own type of art work and I think that the art work that I like has to be detailed, I like the odd simple thing but I love detail in a painting or drawing, I don't like most the classical artists because they are keepers of there own technique and no one else can do it better than them, I like art work that you can unravel with your eye, pick it apart and absorb the skills of another.

I like a lot of digital art but I see it as a easy art style to put detail in to, but I don't mind that any more because I did not like digital art when I first saw it because it seemed to have a lot of cheating factors like being able to undo mistakes, and mixing media that you can not do in the real world, tracing work... I don't like that and adding pictures of some thing and painting over it to get the texture u want, I can't and wont do most of these thing when I using the graphics tablet because undoing is not an option in reality and adding a picture in to it and painting over it, I think this is a foolish way to do art because you will never learn how to paint the thing you used as a picture unless you learn how to paint it properly.

any way I love detail in art work and every time I see some proper art work it inspires me to create some thing as detailed, all tho I can not paint as good as the art I have seen I still pushes me to move falward to get the skills I need, but its not the same with digital art because I don't think its the same thing it still inspires me but not as much as real art.

In the last blog I talked about how I was going to find out the source of my creativity, In fact i got in to a convo with my dad over Christmas about graffiti, because he sees it as chavs tagging where as there are 2 types of graffiti there is tags to mark terrortory and there are actual pieces of art, the conversation went on for ages he believes that all graffiti if crime because it is doing some thing to others property and is illegal where as I think that graffiti is a lack of inspiration in young people
because of buildings in this country..... i know it doesn't make sense give me a sec to exsplane .......right you only see graffiti on ugly buildings that don't inspire, I mean you don't see it on churches or a nice building or a new building (I'm not talking about tags here, tags are done by the stupid people I'm talking about the art side of things) I think that the only reason we have graffiti is because of the depressing sceene that we live in, i belive graffiti is a byproduct of building every thing cheap and boring in the 70's and i don't think it will get better. the thing is that the people that are resopsible for the problem will not understand it they dismiss it as vandalism, which it is...don't get me wrong, its vandalism with a purpose !!

ok sorry where was I right the map of creativity........ right what makes me creative, I suppose that there are 2 driving factors there is a desire to beat my rivals and and my brothers and sisters, I know wanting to beat you own family ... not many people can understand it......I wont go in to it. and the other is to perfect the skill that i have learnt over the past 7 years I suppose that everyone has these desires maybe not the same as mine but similar to mine, to understand the what inspires me I have to understand the things that drives me.

I guess that the driving points are like a pillar in which all my inspiration sits and with out this pillar there would be no inspiration on top.......no thats stupid and it doesn't work like that.
ok so if I need to find out why i am inspired by some thing, I will need to understand the reason for the for inspiration in general and I have a basic grasp on this topic I believe that the mid of a creative person strives to create some thing that has not been created before and all tho there are many things that inspire me to create I believe that I have certain thing that help me more than others like some bits of music( if I'm drawing some thing like a robot or some thing i lissen to crazy robot music to try and get the feel for what I'm drawing, but some times my hand will be taken by the music and it will practically draw by it self) i believe that there is a part of our brain that we can switch off in and divert all are energy in to creating and I think i would be a good idea if i find out how this works because I've done it about 6 times and it all ways gives good work.

I have decided in steed of just trying to figure out what creativity is, I'am going to try and decipher what make my creativity tick.... so to speak.

I will start of with what I now see creativity as, and then move on to trying to figure out the way that I'm inspired and why it inspires me... and what i hope to achieve with my creativity.

I think creativity isn't a state of mind or a part of you that thirsts for imagery in every thing it sees..... this is not right because if it where so then artist would never leave there house they be on the computer searching for imagery and would never leave, so I think that it is a sort driving need that keeps you going to create the best thing that you can and the 1 law I have all way agreed on with art is what my dad has told me since i was young is that you should never be happy with your work, because it is never done and once you think that you have achieved what you set out to do, then you have no more to give and that is why I am all ways unhappy with my work..... I guess that it is more of a way of life than a way to do art.... but none the less I live by that reasoning and it might be the answer that I'm searching for the reason behind my creativity but I don't know yet so I will keep searching for my creative path until I am sure of what make my brain or my heart give out what it does, and I will also look in to the different things that inspire me......!!!

I went to look at my home town the other day and it is a dismal waste of human interaction upon are earth, and this made me think that its not the town or the people in it that feed my creativity but the surrounding area in which i have grown up in and the things that
I have seen, I know there are sheep out here in wales and that they are bouring.............. its not the fact that the sheep suck, its the fact that the surrounding area inspires me to create some thing and in an area like the one I live in there is peace and you can listen to yourself and really get the idea down because you don't have no people, no cars and no fools walking around talking shit...... just the sound of a river slow and steady and a fire burning away in front of you.... I know I went of subject but its important stuff because I hope to find in my roots the key to my creativity, I don't know if what I'm looking for is there or not, but its a good place to start looking....... the past.

aaaaa.... the game city thing good times......

right now game city was great fun, we did loads of things and had a great time, where shall I start....at the beginning I guess,

when we arrived in Nottingham we didn't realize the what we where getting in to, me and Tom LI shared a room and we had a laugh when we found out that are room was one with 2 double beds.

that night we had to go and find out what we needed to do for games city, and meet the heads in charge, they where all cool guys and gals, after that we went to the gallery to see what work was there an if any of ours was, a small amount was on a screen jumping from image to image, and all the other work was shit.

but i meet Jon Burgerman and we had a long talk about creativity and about his art style and Wipe Out Fusion that he had just done the art work for, he went off to get ready for his speech and I looked around to see everyone getting steadily more drunk, which was fun.

after that me and Tom Li went for a siggy and we meet an ex-writer for edge magazine and he introduced us to the editor of edge magazine, after the gallery we went to the pub across the road , i forget the name of it where we where told not to stay late because of work and such the next day, did we listen ........ . . . .no!. we proceeded to have arm wrestles for a while and even got the Floyd (one of the heads) in to it. after which we then got really drunk, and started to shout random French words ... ha ha, nice to which a French guy came up to us because he thought we could speak French. to which i was so drunk that I was trying to worn him of Chav's and people of there nature. we stumbled back to the hotel and went to sleep.

the first day of work was interesting because when we got there I was chosen by Floyd to dress up as Darth Vader for a photo shoot so it could go in to the papers the next day so I was like OK that sounds cool little did i know the suit was intensely hot and i was dripping with sweet by the time i was done any way i went back to work on the square with the large screen, playing, Wii tennis after a while i started talking to all the tech guys in the back of the giant screen van...... what this is stupid u can only upload 1 vid thats not good...sorry....!!

basically are job was to talk to people about games and to look over certain consoles and controllers and stuff like that,

that night we went to the party.

the next day and this was the funnest day out of the lot, because there where......

loads of stormtroopers and we had to take them down to the square because they cant see to good and it was well funny because people where freaking out all over the place because of them, and watching them playing Lego Star wars was class as well. Darth got owned only because he couldn't see very well. and when where taking them back Vader shouted in the street, Darth needs beer, .....well class ! !

so i got them to get a group photo of us guys and them....I have not the Patience for righting this blog so this is the first part of game city.....

I have learnt more about creativity i was of the under standing that creativity was of 3 parts but now i have come to think that it, more of a state because there will be day when you can draw and days when you can't and this is a problem for artists every where, so I have the creative wall smasher....TM....

only joking..... I have seen what my creative insights are and it is a desire to be inspired by a something, this is a problem in Leicester because there are little things to inspire you in this day and age in this country.

take the amount of things that could inspire you like buildings, people and wildlife..... OK so these are the factors within the city that we have to work with and there not good in this area, i know that a artist can work with any thing that he sees but when you have what we have to deal with you turn to the Internet to try and inspire you in to crating something, but still i need more I thirst for inspiration and come up empty handed.

I do apologize for this creative blog because I'm not thinking creativity at this time but i wanted to put this down some where.....sorry....

not like it matters no one looks at my blog...so...ah well

I have thought about it some more and all though I stand by what I have written in the post before I need to address some things, creativity is more than a thought that comes in to your mind, because artist musicians and scientists have the creative side, ok scientists work on logic but they work to a aim that was not there until they started the project, much like drawing we make are project out of research and give it a name at the end.

I would also like to say that there are 3 pieces to the creative mind of the artist:
1. research is a large part of what you can imagine because the mind needs fuel for the fire, to create a new image you need to know what you are creating by doing research is a way of narrowing the images that are filtered through your mind and focusing the final out come.

1. developing the control of what the mind sees , and what it wants to see this is a problem because the mind is like a wild animal that we need to make domestic to be able to see what we wish it to see and not what are mind wants to see.

2. putting the image on to paper this is hardiest part because I need to train my mind more I have a way of doing things, because I never get 1 clean sharp image just loads of different images I compile them and take all the good points from say 6 different designs and join them together to create my final out come

thats the way i understand it.

oww the reason I like detail in artists work is because they have a focused mind and can create an image from there mind in complete focus now thats skill.

owww.. to me creativity is a kind of insight to things people would not normally see. I would say that creativity is a big part of being an artist, to be able to create a character or a scene in your head and to be able to put that image down on paper. I would say it is a gift/ability that few people have developed and I do believe that everyone has a chance of developing this gift/ability, most people have the ability to imagine things objects worlds when they where kids but most people let it wane and have only a head of facts and logic, then there are the people that let there imagination run away with them, and it changes them in to a fusion of logic and imagination(they usually go mad). Then theres the artist who can control there imagination and use it to create things that are not the norm, thing no one would think of, whether its a design of a new product or whether its a dungeon that trolls live in.
all I trying to say is that an artist is in controls of what he sees in his mind and of what goes on to page, and with more training he/she can create a more focused image a clear definition of the image in there head.

thats my definition of creativity....but thats not what this blogs about, I intend to gather enough information on creativity to give me a better understanding of what creativity is.

the dictionary describes creativity as: imaginative or inventive, not much help there...

last week i was stuck in a field in the middle of Wales, for the worst week of my life (I have had some bad days but a week of shitty farming culture and the worst job imaginable) cleaning toilets I know... I know.... what scum would do this job............well me because for 6 days work 6am to 10pm of sitting on your ass and drawing clouds and playing monopoly and at the end get paid about £500 whats wrong with that.

But NO....
this was the worst year ever because not only was it during the crazy amount rain that we had last week but the field out side my toilets was a river of mud .... constant mopping ...eaaarrrrr.
so that made the work hell not to mention the amount of crazy farmers there are in wales, this year had all decided to put there caravans next to my toilet and insult me every chance they got.........like mopping takes hours in that mud.. so when you get near to the end of mopping a whole toilet block so crazy farmer will come in say"yor fightin a lossing battle thur" then walk right to the other end across your mopped floor.... Kill farmers..Kill them all......now go!

if thats not bad enough for you then every night you get back to your tent and have a nice single malt whiskey... then a fight would brack out and you have no chance but to try and ignore the sound of evil all around you, and this happened all nights except 1.

and then just to top the biscuit on the last day I had all my art equipment stolen from me, and hagakure the book of samurai code...... it pissed me right off....yea crap week.

although it doesn't read like a really bad thing think how many poo story's I missed out .

i remember why I posted this blog was to say that I found a tank at the show.........

I really like the course i think its great, but there are some things that need to be sorted out like the lack of creativity within in some of the students i think that looking at films will help us and we also need to be thought how to mod games and how to understand the game engine's, I think it would be a good idea if we had more of a drawing class because our one is short and i also think that a 3d workshop would be good to gain the understanding of how things work.

thats it the blog system is great never seen anything better, and Joel's class is very helpful and so is Chris & Jack's drawing class but we need more time with all the tutors to gain a better understanding of how things work,

I am going to write about the conference with Peter Molyneux about Fable 2 because I liked the first Fable game and this one looks much better so far, there is a minimal amount of information about it on the net I can only find out about the dog that there bringing in to the game.

I will tell you why I am looking at fable 2 because of the amount of creativity thats been put in to the game and the fact that fable was a hell of a risk to take in the first place, it was like this because Peter Molyneux promised more than he had with fable, he said your character will grow you from a child and that it would be free roaming but it was not and the public was not happy...... I even think he was sent death treats.

But this time he is only aloud to talk about features that are going to be in fable 2 plus he has tryed to restore some of the things that where not in fable I like the fact that he still trying to give the things that he could not do before and he has made fable 2 more impressive that the first because it is free roaming there more weapons and armor a bigger land and you get a dog at the beginning of the game and it actually acts like a dog.

Theres a lot of things that i like about fable the fact that all the people have British accents and the fact that you can you emotions to tell people things , I like that fact that they've taken this further with fable 2 in the fact that Peter thinks that its not the ending of that game that makes it a momentous game its the feeling that you get when you see something truly worth completing or doing something tedious to gain a feeling of worth.

I agree that the blogs are there to exercise the mind so that we can use are mind to the full extent of its ability's, I also understand that the fact that its not all about teaching but about reflecting on the work that we have learn through out the course, I believe that I have acquired this level of ability but I also believe that there's lot more to improve on.

I think that I am going to archive a vast knowledge of 3Ds max and a improved drawing skill plus a degree I want to go as far as I can in the industry because I want to make an incredible game, but I would as so be quite happy drawing concepts or making 3D models but if I had the choice I would choose drawing for games because I like drawing and I also like drawing and redrawing the same character to get him to look perfect I like that and its all part of development in my book and I also hope that I could be creative in my job as well but that’s not always an option with a job is it...

But this is my choice to down this path and I worked to hard to going to give up now..
and I will work until I can get a good job that reflects my creativity ...
I so pose that I've always wanted to work for lion head studios because I realized that having your own art style is important, so I decided to not draw any manga because its just copying an art style that’s from another planet ........ I know you think I'm crazy any way I digress I decided that I should draw in a British style of some sort because I British and that makes me tied to the style and custom of this country and that’s why I want to work for lion head studios because the only British company that makes British games with British humour and a certain sense of creativity in the fact that they are one of the only company's left that try to do something different with game to try and push the bar.

In my opinion is that all people can be creative weather it drawing, wrighting , art directing and maybe even programing. but in my opinion creativaty is some thing that we all can do its just making a object,person or story that has never been done before I think this is easy to do but it takes time more than anything because when I get an idea I have to keep refining that idea other wise it will become not the image in my head but a freek and then that would wreck the idea and give me some sort of crappy non unique character.

see the way that I create a character gives me a range of things to do I draw the basic character then do research over the net to gather inspiration to help me mold the character, after I have gathered enough I will draw 3-5 character and review there good and bad points and the combine all there good points to make the character I want, if there are any parts on the character that do not pleese you then you have more research to do.

I would show my creativity by the amount of effet in my work because I like doing creative things, I think acknoledging other peoples work isn't a problem its the fact that the work is created and you can see if its going to be a good design from the start, but weather they refine that idea propaly or not is another story because as I've already said the part that make it truly creative is getting the proper idea out of your head and working it until it is perfect.

creativity in games can be included in every aspect of the game but rarely is its usaly seen in characters and levels but its hard to see with in games because the creativity in the game could be realy good but is let down because of the programing, but I think they try less now days because its all about making money so they'll go with something tryed and tested, and this brings a problem because game wont change much if people think like that. I have been keeping an eye on a certain game because I like what they tryed to achieve but could not.

the game that I think is one of the most creative apart from Big Little Planet, its Fable and Fable 2
I liked Fable although it was easy I liked the Britsh humor in it and the fact you could use emotions as well, its things like this that make it creative it trying new ways of doing things and new concepts that make it creative.

Fable 2 should be a good game... I hope , I know that they have give the main character a dog that looks pretty smart, and the fact the if you choose to be female at the beginning you can get pregnant and have children......It looks interesting.

this is a tough one....

the thing is that neither are right in my view because each company will want a slightly different thing, see I read EDGE magazine because it is the best games magazine out there, and the other thing is that it all ways offering jobs in it and they usually ask for a degree and a knowledge in 3DS Max or MYRA and if you have experience in the industry then that will help but its not required, having a liberal arts background would be good for some companies giving them a higher quality but something like that can only be achieved by half a life time with in the industry working out all the little tricks that we wont even understand at are current level.

but that’s just what they put to get applicants I would imagine that you would need a degree but I never seen any one asking for one, even on the net I have never come across this.

I think that I would be able to get a job if I worked hard here and learned all that I can, also if I could come up with a creative characters when I wanted I think having these qualities would get me the job, oww and of course working in a team.

I also think that games company’s would want a creative artist and this would help me to get a job as well as my undying desires to do better than others on the course that are not like that most people are but some just don’t care at all weather they do good or bad but I must succeed or die trying.

The way that I see it is that if they want some one creative with liberal arts and amazing skills, there hire me…. Only joking they want someone to design something for them and if they want some one with tones of max existence they want some one who can make models quickly and detailed so they are both right but for different prepossess.

If you think that it doesn't matter weather games have music or not, then my question is what games do you play. In my opinion the games that lack in music aren't even going to get of the ground because even if you don't notice it there are a huge part of the game because it... its like this, the senses that we have are touch, sight, smell, and hearing we interact with the character through the controller and his touch becomes ours, we see the game through the T.V. or P.C. giving us our sight in the game world, I know we can't smell things in games so I'll move on to hearing the sounds of the game world give you a sense to make up a hole world in a game you need all there’s things.

the sounds in games are becoming more intense with improvements like 5.1 systems and other things setups like this can enable you to hear exactly where you enemy is firing from and in some cases you will be able to here the bullets fly past your head, sound in games is very important.
The thing is that not all games have music but most do the ones with out music usually have a series of different atmospheric noses to give the player something to think about like in horror games if you something rustling then you panic its all about suspense and trickery making the player think there’s something going on.

The best music that I have ever heard in a game is the metal slug songs through out the series of games, I like metal slug music because it is well composed I would put a link with a track at the bottom but I can't figure out audio blogger. I like the music because it give the player a sense of importance I think that every song is completely different I like this because the metal slug music is very fast paced and up beat because the game is so frantic, but that’s the way I like it.
The music keep you going through out the game keeps you motivated to kill your enemy's, The second best noise in a game is sonic gulping air that’s comedy.

I bet the picture of sonic takes you back.....

Task17 Game Engines what, who, and how

A game engine is like the inner core of the game it dictates the graphics what objects do haw things react and the physics of the game it self with out the engine there would be nothing more than a bunch of random objects from the game, I would like to know and understand the game engine because they all have to run in a some what similar way.

I know that game engines are not the same but if I could learn one that would give me a good building block to expand on and increase my understanding of how games work, because I think that it is a need to know type of thing and I would like to know how its done.

with the increase in games, game engines are now made to a simple standard giving the other people on the team an easer job to import the data in to the engine and configure it to a appropriate standard because the game engine has set limitations within its configuration like the amount of ploys on a single figure for example.

the thing that I like about game engines is the fact that they are entirely editable within the engines parameters, If I know haw the worked then I could change parts of a game and the engine would do nothing to stop me. The other thing is if you know what you where doing then you could change the script of the game completely this would enable you to do just about any thing you want, ..... nice.

As we progress with game engines they are able to take on larger amounts of ploys and are able to incorporate more complex maps, shades and filters like normal maps and secular maps and a range of different lighting technology these things are important to get more photo-realistic graphics.

I think video game culture is all around us, Its like this the people on the course are a huge part of the culture its not about your choice in games, its the fact that you will argue to the death about something pointless like why this game is better.

I would also say that after a night out with people from the course we'll go back and play games at 3am. The thing is that games are a huge part of are lives now even more than ever and I don't see it as a problem there will be people who do because they don't understand games.

any way.... that’s my opinion...

I would say that I was a part of many different games cultures not just because I play games but because I live for game (not in a romantic sense), games culture is about being not just a player but a investigator of the game it self. Lets put it this way a gamer will go out and buy a game so they can play it and only play it and then discard it, but a true gamer will explore the game to the fullest, they'll go around the game look at the scenery and the world and they will be able to see how much effort has gone in to the game they are the only ones that will be able to tell weather the game is good or rubbish.

hay what up...

I decided to post a blog about my number 1 game...

because I can add images in to blogger after sorting out my computer.

I will tell you why I love metal slug so much because I hate the fact that nearly all games are becoming easy and I don't think that you get your moneys worth, I think that this is a problem the games that I like are the games that most give up on. I love hard games because they reward the player not with a cool character or a weapon, but knowing that only a couple of people have completed it.

When most people play Metal Slug they think thats its repetitive and theres to much going on that they can't see how to control the character through the battle.

The thing is that Metal Slug has little to no story line, this is a good thing because there is no need in one, all though it may look repetitive it isn't because there are a lot of thing to keep you interested while playing, like the level lay out cool guns and vehicles to get in to and play with
or being turned in to a zombie or a mummy or a monkey, ow and the fact that there are crazy bosses and battle fields all through out the game.... epic stuff !

I also like the artists who designed the Metal Slug machines and other creations they all look cool.

I think that the industry is going from strength to strength and I couldn't be happier the only problem is the fact that the small job are being out sourced and this gives the main designers to do better jobs in the game now that seems good but the out sourced work comes back with problems because the out sources will cut corners and this will waste time to repair it before it can be used.

the thing about the industry is that employees are still there but it different now to back in the day when you had 10 people working on Toejam and earl to a building full of people running around try to get Toejam’s voice changed to sample A123........ any way it changed because of outsourcing that means that you work force is split because you can't keep an eye on the out source’s in china or some where.

I would think that there are many challenges at the moment because the new console release is a problem for each company in the great console race, but what I think is the main problem is the fact that what’s the next step how can they advance consoles more shore you can make the graphics better but that’s not going to be good enough in a couple of years when the graphics get to a level of fake realism then they need to make it feel real. (that’s just my opinion)

The character in a game is a crucial thing if the character doesn’t fit the game the player will lose interest in the game with in a short amount of time, I’m very picky in games and I will only play game with a good characters in them and decently a good main character is needed or a good villain.

I don't know how to answer that.... erm.... the thing is I don't read often only when I find a good book and I hardly every read for story I read for fact and I like films if the story is good I don't have a emotional link to the characters in film or books it's the story that counts..... and don't say what about lord of the ring I HATE FRODO.

I think that some things in films and books make you feel a certain way and some thing do in games mainly the desire to kill...! ha

But in games the people that your talking about are virtual and don't apply because if you don’t like a character in a film it could be his crappy acting that makes him bad where as in a game its not the acting its the bad dialog and the poorly done actions for the virtual character that’s why I have no feeling for games characters.

In that note I still like certain characters from games I just don't care weather they live or die.
There are tones of characters that I like, like Alundra, Link, Cloud, Sephiroth, Master Chief Earthworm Jim, Siegfried the whole of Fable and Sonic of course.

Game play to me is the way that the character acts the way he’s animated, Its also the things in the game that keep you coming back to play more like mini game and other little way to make you look better than any other person playing the game, I guess you get a feeling of accomplishment and this is what I believe makes game play the feeling of accomplishment against other not just people but characters as well.

I think that game play can be put in to games but I would say its rare to see it any more people are hard to please and this is the problem with game play at the moment I think that game can be built in to the game but its not easy every thing needs to be right to have good game play the levers need to just fun run or driving around.

game play is very important if a game has crap game play the player won't know whets wrong and will give up on the game straight away the better the game play the better the sales and it around longer and may make a sequel.

I think of no way that’s game plays a set of rules a game can be what it want an one made nuttier will love it (there’s all way 1) but if a game is unique with something new it may not matter because the game might not have good game play and some will take that idea and use it again but do it right. people have been copying things for ages and some one will all ways in the end do it right.

TASK 9.. Governing Control

My favourite controllers is the nice simplistic of the mega drive controller with the joy stick because the controls where so simple that you could master your character in a couple of minutes look at sonic the hedgehog easy..... but no more because we have progressed we can no longer use retro controllers any more and the games are so much harder.

The most comfortable controller is the Xbox 360 it looks nice and I have not come across a problem with it yet, The seconded best is the original Xbox controller I like this controller because there are hardly any people who like it and so if I’m play games with friend it ensures me a controller, At number 3 its playstation controller with its copying off other controllers it has some things right and some things wrong like the l1 and r1 buttons there as badly placed as the z button on the game cube.. Pathetic. In number 4 its the Xbox smaller controller I know its ok.........wrong the grip is comfortable but the start, back, white and black are in a stupid place and cost valuable time when fighting in game. And In dead last the pathetic Game Cube controller this is a stupid idea its like the car that Homer makes in the Simpson’s the colour scheme is bad and the passions of the buttons is laughable..... Its like bop-it.
The best looking console is the Xbox 360 and the wii comes second game cube looks stupid and the play station has the right look for what its trying to put full word.. actually they all look good in there own right the game cubes a kids console and that’s whets its trying to advertise, this applies to all of them like Playstation is a black tower like object the black colour signifies that its evil and that would advertise to teens the evil tower... ha.

the Xbox consoles signifies the future that’s what there trying to portray with the first one it was a green wobbly thing which must belike a atom or something and the second one has gone for a tower as well and a futuristically shaped one.

TASK 8 story line is it important

In my opinion the story line is very important to a game but a lot of people want just action I find this foolish in a was because they don't realise what they are missing and this is a problem,
games need story lines and only game with good story line a truly remembered a good game must apply to the lore of games the game play must be good the sound must be good and the story must be good, if just one of these isn't up to standard then the game will be forgotten.

sorry I digress.... the story line is important games have story lines the same as books and film because the person has to know what where and why to under stand what is going on.

the story line in games happens to you not the other way round you can run from the story but you will seek it out...ha nice.....Sorry as I was saying the story line happens to you because it is like a film you watch it to know what’s happening but also you make it happen by your actions in the game like completing a level,
This said not many have a story only RPG and plat formers and some F.P.S.'s so NO! in some cases the story of games is useless all that’s matters is your doing what you want in a virtual world and that’s what where doing with games all the time ..... any way, I like story in games because its like reading a book or watching a film.

Art Directors ok.... They coordinate the efforts of the art team giving them what they need to build a visual image of what the game looks like, He also makes shore that the work is finished on time and that’s its to a productive standard with the right look for the game.
Art directors are responsible to the company that they work for but there more than that if a game gets a bad review because of the graphics then he is responsible for that, but it also makes the company look bad.

I believe that it s a creative role and quite a good one because although the company will set guidelines the because you can still alter the look of the game and I believe there is allot more going for being the head of the art team a lot more control of the direction of the game because you will meat with the other team leaders and get to contribute to the direction of the game from in there fields and in turn they can help you with suggestions.

although the jobs are alike there a re some defences the art director has more control over what is happening in the game and this is because the game making process is split up in to 3 types of directors and the film and media have a single director that must be appeased......art directors power.

The qualities you need to be a director are ..... people skills, artistic skills of a wide range like paints, alcohol markers a range of different media. He will as so need leadership skills time management and a vast knowledge of the 3d programs and he would have to know what is going on all the time that sounds hard.

I can't find anything that really defines game play so I will tell you what I think game play is,
it is a combination great music and a game that’s makes you want to play it even after you've finished completing it.

The leading lights for game design.... ha these people don’t exist there is only one main game for each console and this is the way it will always be. These games will be mimicked through out the consoles life and until these titans are over thrown then a new game can not sit in the spot light of that console. There are also a game for each genre showing the rest of the world that they suck, but seriously the console thing look in to it and you’ll see

In today’s games there is no such thing as a games designer any more because the game is split in to so many different sections there maybe a person that designs the levels and another who designs the charters in the game. the closest thing is the person who designs the main feel for the game and says to the rest of the people working on it that the game must have this look, but this individual is not responsible for the detail on the levels or of the main bulk of the story line.

in the games industry different game genres do require different design principals but only slightly it all depends on the wide verity in level design like in R.P.G.‘s. The other deciding factor is that if you have a games like fighting or sports then the designer will be able to spear head nearly the entire project.

The thing that’s most important for me is the style and the surroundings of the game, so that when I play a game is that the game takes you to another place like in a book, the world that is portrayed in the game is done in a certain style that submerges you in to it, if this is done badly then the illusion of the game and its surroundings will be flawed and the game will not work as well as it should. So I think that my favourite thing in a game is seeing if they can make the world of the game realistic.

I’m not a fan of games magazines because they do not reflect the needs of the people today, they have a certain amount of appeal to today society but they.

I find that the games world is to large in to days society and this is where the problem is because the writers are going on ratings and there own opinions and this also clouds there judgement in weighting which is good and bad.

writers for games magazines work in the company and the profit of the magazine pays for them, but they also get paid to give a game a more positive out look to try to increase sales
of that game because a lot of people will trust games magazines to give an honest opinion this doesn’t mean that the game is not worthy of that grade but it can be altered to improve it out look.

The ranking system in games is necessary but it is done so inaccurately that it is not worth paying attention to unless it not a main stream game, because these games are the ones that maybe only one or two people have played and when one of these games comes in to light they give an accurate opinion about because they found it after the release date.

I don't like new games journalism because the information in it is limited and the reference pictures are ones that show the finest quality of the game and can make the game seem that its something that’s its not. This is why I use the site www.gametrailers.com to look at new or old games because you get to see how the game actually is and not a couple of re-rendered images.

The current game industry in the 21 century has come a long way but it can always go further as the uprising of new consoles and new graphics will only take us to one place. A more competitive market awaits this will increase the amount of consoles and gamers and boost the graphics to a level we won't even beagle to comprehend.

I believe that the industry has only one pressure to face in the near to distant future, The pressure is the fact that game are getting more realistic and involved in the new competitive market and soon there will be a problem. This is only my point of view but I believe that there well be a lot of bans for some of the game of the future I think this because the problems have all ready started with games such as MAN HUNT which was ban be cause some kid killed him self not long after he had bought the game and it was removed from the selves. The other game that proves my theory is the fabled WORLD OF WARCRAFT this game is causing an number of problems... there are people that have quit there jobs to play this game non stop. I even know people that have quit there jobs and after a year of playing try to get a job in Blizzard France. there are so people that have died playing that game... like at there computers. The problems is that soon concerned parents will compile these problems and will use it to ban game that the perceive to be offensive.

I have no problem with this level of realism coming to game in the future because I love and live for games and I hope the game Industry will grow this strong all I’m saying is that there will be a problem.

What I want from games in the future is a felling of freedom not in some stupid hippy way but in the way that my character can do any thing. I want a game that reflects the player a game that give you the control over the world around you, A R.P.G. which is online and offline playable and has quests that are a challenge unlike FABLE with its child like game play (Fable's a great game but way to easy and way to sort) I would like to feel that I'm actually there in this world that I can distort to my own image. I think that the new technology that the Wii is using can be use to create a feeling of control that can be used to create this feeling of realism in a game that is needed

The Bronze age...Or the 80s aka Task 3

The games in the 80s where very basic but this is when games really took off and people realised that its a harm less as a board game with games like tetras and duck hunt but all the time in the back ground there was an evil accountant at work, as the battle for the living room begin. As consoles where being made and games where being thought out in the reasoning of what can and can't be done the race would start, this for me is what made the consoles and companies of tomorrow like the Sega and the Nintendo it also set the style and market for many years to come.

I say this in a I was not there sort of way but from what research I have gathered and what I know from my own head there where 3 dramatic changes in the world of games in those days.

the first and the greatest was the fact of having a computer games console in your home this is the single largest step for the games world giving them a permanent foot hold in the world of the average person.

The second was the great idea of having changeable games for the consoles this gave them the chance to expand the market as much as possible and my 3rd and final greatest point is the idea of controllers I know I can't live with out them... can you picture a world with out controllers I can't.

The games made in the 1980s are the building blocks of our games world, as with any console the games that came out to begin with are nothing compared to the games that are released at the end of the consoles life

The History Of The Great One......Or Task 2

I beleave that the First coputer game was noughts and crosses the game was created by electric calculators.... (just read). This is what gave birth to games today because when electric calculators came about between the would wars, The basic misiles at the had to use electronic calcuation to chart trajectories. This was later developedand and made easyer by the use of computers they executed a sequence of instructions called programs (or software nowadays).
In the 1940 computers where very slow and took ages to execute programs and could run for a short amount of time, They could run a program table of square roots to solve complex equations this is how computer noughts and crosses was born.

I dont know who made this system of programs or how they thought this is only info that I have built up of the net.

I will post a new blog to map out my personal gaming history if I do it now then it will take well over 300 words.

The first game that I played I think was Sonic The Hedgehog or Altered Beast I can't remember. The game that I'am playing at the moment... well there are 2,Doom 3 and because I love retro games I decided the other day to play the good old dolphin simulator
(ECCO The Dolphin).

I have chosen scary ducks blog for my first blog test, I know that a lot of people will have chosen this blog as well because it is the best blog there are many reasons for this like the catchy name the cool logo and the weighting style. The fact that he puts every thing he does in to a story no matter how small a deal it is this is what I like about his writing style, I also like the fact that he has put pictures that relate to the tale that he is weaving like the picture of the pins when you first go on to the page you think ( What the hell !!!!!) then after reading the story you find the meaning behind the picture.

I find Blogging to be a personal experience to gain under standing about my self and those around me, I like this way of communication because it gives people the chance to express there feelings about any subject and I feel that I will learn about my fellows on the course with out talking to them.

I think that scary duck wrights every week if not more to keep his mind on track and for the fun of it. He wrights about things that have brought him joy or woe no matter how small I like that.

I see my self writing blog’s maybe 2 or 3 times a week, although I say or type this I’ am late writing this because I have had some trouble with my blog page when I lost my sign in name so I have set up a second one. I also feel that this experience will improve my typing speed and hopefully improve my grammar.

I prefer writing to an invisible audience because I can write as much as I want and I can put my point across in my own way
